Advisory Board Members

  • Tamika Smith

Tamika is a seasoned professional in the Passenger Rail Service industry. She is currently the Director of Rail Services at the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission, overseeing the Operations, IT, and Facility Maintenance teams. Beyond her professional achievements, Tamika has a collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment to social impact. She is passionate about fostering opportunities for women and young adults pursuing careers that positively contribute to their communities and families.

When Tamika first learned of the opportunity to join Ruby’s Place’s Finance Committee, she was excited to support an organization focused on society’s most vulnerable members. As a young child who experienced homelessness with her mother and sisters, she knows firsthand the value of shelters for families. When she was 13 her mother fled Los Angeles and ended up at the Hayward Police Department, they provided hotel vouchers; once the vouchers ran out, she and her family slept in different places until her mom found a few shelters. The family ended up in Fremont and her mom raised her and her sisters there, far away from the violence of South-Central Los Angeles.

Tamika is willing to do whatever she can to ensure other families have access to the services that they need when they are fleeing domestic violence, human trafficking, and any other life.
